1 IngredientChlorhydrate-FreeFragrance-FreeLasts 12+ Months
One ingredient. A mineral crystal that has been used on skin for more than two thousand years — long before the antiperspirant was invented.
Pure Alum Mineral Deodorant is a solid stone of potassium alum — the natural double-salt mineral the Romans kept in their bathhouses and the barbershop kept on the counter. It works because alum inhibits the bacteria that turn fresh sweat into body odour. It does not block your sweat glands. Your body still does what it’s supposed to do; it just stops smelling.
We make this because the rest of the natural-deodorant aisle is full of baking-soda formulas that burn sensitive skin and essential-oil blends that trigger fragrance reactions. Single-ingredient mineral is the lowest-reaction-surface deodorant you can buy. There is nothing in this stone but the stone — no fragrance, no preservatives, no buffers, no plant extracts.
Sampson is run by Canadian environmental engineers. We spent twenty-five years removing aluminum compounds from contaminated groundwater before we built a deodorant line. We chose potassium alum for this product on purpose: it’s the one aluminum-bearing molecule with a 2,000-year track record on human skin, a molecular size too large to absorb through an intact barrier, and a mechanism that respects how the body actually cools itself.
Who it’s for
🌿
Sensitive Skin
No baking soda, no essential oils, no fragrance. One mineral to react to — or rather, not react to.
👶
Pregnancy & Postpartum
Many providers advise cutting aluminum-chlorohydrate antiperspirants. Single-ingredient mineral, no synthetic active. Always confirm with your provider.
🧴
Baking-Soda Rash Converts
If a ‘natural’ deodorant gave you a red, itchy underarm, that was the alkaline pH burn. Alum stone is pH-neutral on skin.
🌍
Minimalists
One stone, twelve-plus months, no plastic refill cycle. The lowest packaging-per-use of any deodorant format on the market.
🌱The Sampson Promise
“We only put ingredients in our products that we would use on our own family. Every ingredient has a purpose. If it doesn’t need to be there, it isn’t.”

Different Molecule from Antiperspirants
Alum vs Chlorhydrate
Aluminum chlorohydrate (Al₂Cl(OH)₅) is a small synthetic molecule designed to plug your sweat ducts. Potassium alum (KAl(SO₄)₂·12H₂O) is a large hydrated mineral double-salt that sits on the skin surface and inhibits odour-causing bacteria. Same element, different compound — the way table salt and lye both contain sodium. The alum molecule is physically too large to pass through intact skin; the FDA classifies potassium alum as Generally Recognized As Safe.
📜
2,000+ Years of Continuous Use
Heritage
Pliny the Elder documented alum in his Naturalis Historia; Roman bathhouses kept it for skin and styptic use. The traditional barbershop has never stopped stocking the alum block. This isn’t a wellness fad — it’s the original deodorant, older than soap as we know it.
💧
Stops the Smell, Not the Sweat
Mechanism
Alum is mildly astringent and forms a thin mineral layer on skin that inhibits the bacteria that turn sweat into body odour. Your body still sweats and cools normally. If you’ve been told you need to plug your underarms to function in public, you don’t — you just need to stop the bacteria.
👕
No White Marks, No Yellow Stains
Clothes-Safe
The yellow underarm stains on white shirts are a reaction between aluminum chlorohydrate and sweat. Without chlorohydrate, that reaction can’t happen. Alum dries clear; nothing chalks, nothing yellows.

One Stone, Year After Year
Lifespan
With a five-second daily application and a rinse-and-dry between uses, one 60g stone lasts twelve months or more — many buyers report two and three years from a single stone. No refill cycle, no plastic stick to throw away every six weeks.
How to Use
01
Wet the Stone
Run the tip of the stone under cool water for two seconds — just enough to slick the surface. Alternative: take it into the shower with you and use it before you towel off.
02
Glide 3–5 Times Per Side
Glide the wet stone across each clean underarm three to five times. You’re leaving a thin invisible mineral layer on the skin, not a coating — less is more.
03
Let Dry 30 Seconds
Wait roughly thirty seconds before clothes. Dries clear, leaves no residue.
04
Rinse and Store Dry
After use, rinse the stone briefly and set it somewhere it can air-dry. Stored wet, alum stones can weaken and crack. Stored dry, the same stone lasts a year or more.
“If you’re switching from a chlorhydrate antiperspirant, expect a 1–2 week adjustment as your underarm bacteria rebalance. Many people notice they actually smell less after the transition, not more.”
