r Upon the recommendation of a fitness trainer, Kelley D’Angelo of Ojai, Calif., swore off all grains for 30 days. That was a tall order for a grain lover; bread, pasta, and cereal were staples in her diet. But she had been plagued by low energy, a chronic aching knee, digestive trouble and stubborn weight that she could not shed, so she decided to give the grain-free diet a try.

r “The first 30 days were tough,” Kelley said. “But one day I woke up and had new energy. My knee had stopped aching, I lost 15 pounds, my energy went through the roof and I felt 20 years younger. There was only one problem; I missed my morning cereal. I needed that morning crunch and needed something satiating so that I wouldn’t snack between meals.”

r After some experimentation, Kelley came up with her original recipe of Vanilla Cinnamon granola made from sprouted, dehydrated nuts and seeds with coconut oil, cinnamon and maple syrup. Her friends and family found it down-right addicting, so she started selling her treats at the local farmer’s market. She became known as the Ojai Granola Girl.
