Description
Authentic West African black soap — shea butter, palm kernel oil, and cocoa pod ash. A traditional cleansing bar for face, body, and hair. Sourced from Ghana.
African Black Soap is a category distinct from conventional soap — it is made from the ash of harvested plantain skin, cocoa pods, and palm leaves, combined with palm kernel oil and shea butter. The ash provides natural alkalinity and a mild abrasive texture; the shea butter provides the moisture. The process has been used in West Africa for centuries.
Sampson sources this soap from producers in Ghana and frames it as a traditionally-used bar that many customers have reported works well for oily skin, acne-prone skin, and conditions where conventional soap feels stripping. We do NOT claim this soap cures, treats, or heals eczema, acne, or any skin condition — those are clinical claims that require a DIN or NHP registration. What we do claim is what the soap IS: a minimal-ingredient, plant-ash-and-butter bar with centuries of traditional use.
Free from artificial colors, fragrances, and preservatives. Works on face, body, and as a clarifying hair wash. Because the alkalinity is higher than conventional soap, buyers with dry skin may want to moisturize after use.
Ingredients
Roasted Cocoa Pods, Plantain Skin, Palm Oil, Shea Butter, Water.
Use Cases
Face, body, hair (as a clarifying shampoo), makeup removal.
Typical Customer-Reported Uses
gentle facial cleanser for oily skin, a simple bar for acne-prone skin routines, a clarifying hair wash. Customer-reported, not clinically-claimed.
How to Use
- Wet the soap; rub between hands or on a washcloth to create a lather. The texture is rougher than conventional soap — a little goes a long way.
- Apply lather to skin in circular motions. On the face, leave on for 30–60 seconds before rinsing for a deeper clean. On hair, massage through scalp.
- Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
- Moisturize after. African Black Soap cleans deeply and can feel drying; pair with a moisturizer if needed.
- Store in a dry, sealed container between uses — it dissolves faster than cold-process soap.
